WidowPC Gaming Computers - Jack Thompson Spanks the Sims
And so the decline of Western Civilization begins with "Hot Coffee."
Lately, I've been more and more concerned with how the GTA hidden code (accessible through a program called Hot Coffee) will effect the computer gaming industry. As many of you know, my brother and I cofounded an independent game studio. The game in development (Uberspace) includes violence, and fire, and the word "frickin". Should we be afraid?
Anti-gaming activist Jack Thompson thinks we should be. He is calling foul on Sims 2 (WTF) for nudity and has begun gathering firewood for a good ol' time witch burnin'. Jack "Computer Games are Bad" Thompson, lead the linch mob that hanged Grand Theft Auto and is now pointing the Finger of Doom at other top selling games. Why is he only targeting the top selling games and not independent games? Will we see the gaming industry version of Nazi Germany's "crystal night" before the month is out? Who will be next? World of Warcraft's nightelves? Leisure Suit Larry is certainly on the book burners' list of targets. When will the mob turn from sex hypocrits to violence hypocrits? Is hit combat game, Battlefield 2, next on the Adults Only list?
Yes, Rock Star Games went too far. In so many ways. Some will agree about the sexual content. I'm not so concerned about that. The religious groups that have banned sex have all died out for obvious reasons. I don't really care what they put in their game. However, not telling the ESRB about sexual explicit content in the game just discredits the agency that is supposed to be the one we use to "self regulate" the industry. Not-to-mention-but-we-will-anyway, supplies publicity hounding zealots like Jack with the mobs they need to take the whole industry down in one glorious McCarthian barbeque.
Let's look at who is leading the charge for the anti-game mob:

-- Agenda: $aving our $oul$ from $ex (one $130 million dollar suit at a time)
By the way, this is the same Jack Thompson who accused Janet Reno of being a lesbian and an Alzheimers patient and that she was being blackmailed by the Mafia. Isn't that kind of bizarre? Not at all. At the time, he was running against her for the office of Dade County State Attorney.
